Manchester Digital is planning to organise an event in Manchester on 12th in the evening. Any other plans for Manchester please contact us urgently.
Fantastic! Not aware of any other plans but if we hear of any will direct your way. Is there a URL for this event?
For everyone in rural areas, who are too far removed from society to get either broadband or an event, I hope every effort will be made to involve us through backchannels (Twitter), through streaming, through live blogging, and through the full use of what IT and broadband in urban areas can offer.
If we ruralites are forgotten, (apart from what I assume is cyberdoyle’s event in Lancashire) there will once again be a hidden and lost voice, despite the fact that we are in the most dire need of solutions. More so than urban areas at present
#rdbuc09 is the rural affair for anyone who fancies a trip to the country to explore our problems in depth!
Hi Lindsey,
All the events are being self-organised by volunteers (including this site), there is no limit to the number that can be held, the number who can attend or where they can be held. One interest group is considering using Tiny Chat, a free chatroom service, as they cannot meet in person before the deadline. All we require is that any meeting is recorded and a concise report is submitted to digitalbritainunconferences at gmail.com by the 13th May.
More details and tips here. It would be great for the rural perspective to be represented.
Kathryn, sound just like the colloquia….;o) There are a few of the attendees of those here already!
will repost this retweet here! RT for rural people without broadband, a twitter #unconference in cyberspace May 5th 2009 onwards here #rdbuc09
Everyone welcome to go there and start tweeting, tales of woe, links to sites and blogs, let’s try to get the word out into the ether in the hopes that some IT literate ministers might pick it up and run with it. We need to build the eNdGAme infrastructure now, not in 2012 when they wake up to the fact that a 2 meg USO was already obsolete in 2009! Fibre to the Home, business and MY FARM.
